There are many reasons to spend as much time as you need on your nursing coursework. The most obvious reason is preparation for your upcoming exam. Every state requires that aspiring nurses take a licensing examination in order to be able to take the NCLEX-RN test and get your nursing license.
Passing this exam is the only way to get licensed as a nurse. Not only do you get a real sense of achievement from passing this exam, but it puts you one step closer to getting your first job as a nurse. Taking the time and effort to prepare for this exam is well worth it.
Another benefit I gained from my time spent reading Comprehension textbooks was time saved. I would have wasted so much time if I tried to study for the exam without reading guides. This would have lead to poor test scores. Most textbooks I bought came with a CD or DVD so I could listen while I worked or during my breaks. This kept me from having to stop what I was doing and read. Not to mention the extra time spent on a plane ride.
I knew that I was not going to crack the exam the first time I took the exam. I had to get extremely good at reading comprehension in order to pass. However, I did not want to quit my job or lose my girlfriend before I got my license. So I kept my focus and did well.
I did however notice that I did struggle a bit when it came to answering questions. There are a lot of parts of the Comprehension section that requires logic and critical thinking skills. If you are not prepared for these types of questions then your chances of passing the exam are not very good. However, I learned a few tricks that helped me do better on my practice tests.
For instance, I started reading the Comprehension chapter a few days before taking the actual test. I knew that I needed to understand how to read the book title and topic. I also needed to know what kinds of statements were reasonable, and what kinds of statements were not reasonable. Most people struggle when it comes to reading comprehension questions because they are given a text and told to read it. However, there is actually a time where the student needs to look at the meaning of the text in order to understand it. This is where reading exercises help you prepare for this type of section.
You should plan to spend about a half an hour each day for a couple weeks before the exams. This will give you enough time to prepare without having to rush through anything. You may also want to take some time and look at some practice tests that will give you an idea of how to answer questions correctly. You can find plenty of free sites on the internet that will allow you to take practice tests right from home.
The best thing about doing your own practice questions is that it gives you the opportunity to see how you are going to react if you are given another set of questions. You will be able to determine whether or not you understood the question and were able to answer it correctly. In most cases you should be able to do well on the first portion of the test and do poorly on the second. So, in this manner, you will spend a decent amount of your time before the exam reviewing.
Another good method that will help you prepare effectively is to review the material two or three times. This will allow you to get comfortable with the information and question types. When you start reading, focus on the main point and take in as much detail as you can. Then move on to the question that is less important to you. Repeat this procedure for each section of the course.
By spending some time studying for the exams and answering practice questions, you can learn a lot about yourself and about the different areas of the subject. This will give you the confidence to be successful when you sit for the actual exam. If you use this method effectively, you may find that you will do very well on the actual day. Since so much time is wasted without doing anything, many students don’t feel prepared and have a bad study group performance. Therefore, they feel overwhelmed and falter on the day of the exam.
